What is professional massage therapy?
Professional massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and joints. Professional massage therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with every day and occupational stresses, muscular over-use, and many chronic pain conditions.
Does professional massage therapy hurt?
As with many treatments affecting the soft tissue, there are times when professional massage therapy can cause some light discomfort but it is not harmful. If you feel uncomfortable, please tell your therapist immediately. The treatment will then be modified to please you.
What do I wear for my massage session?
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and relaxed! You may wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. Some clients prefer to disrobe completely, while others prefer to leave their underwear on. In any case, you will be covered completely during your massage, and the covering will be removed and replaced as your therapist massages different parts of your body. Your “private parts” will always be covered and never touched.
What should I do or not do to prepare for my professional massage?
We prefer that you be freshly showered prior to your session. If you don’t have time, and/or come straight from work (for example), you may avail yourself of one of our clean and well-equipped shower rooms. We also advise that you do not consume a heavy meal prior to your appointment…especially if you desire ashiatsu, deep tissue, or sports massage.
What should I do during my professional massage?
Make yourself comfortable. Some people close their eyes and fall asleep. Others prefer to talk quietly. Whatever feels natural and helps you to relax is the order of the day. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time. If you are too hot or cold, or would like to adjust the music volume, please advise your therapist. And please advise your therapist if you would like her to focus on certain problem areas, for example, your aching back.
What does the therapist apply to my body during my professional massage?
We have a variety of lotions, oils, etc. that are formulated to be gentle to the most sensitive skin. Please let your therapist know if you have any specific concerns. Almost all of our products are unscented, unless of course you ask for aromatherapy. When your professional massage has concluded, your therapist will ask if you would like her to remove the oil or lotion with a hot towel. You may also shower post-massage if you desire.
What can I expect after my professional massage?
We hope that you will feel completely relaxed! After an initial period of feeling slowed down, clients often experience an increase in energy that might last for several days. After your massage, you should drink plenty of water (your therapist will bring your first cup) to help your body’s organs flush the toxins which will have been released and cleanse your tissues. Allow the effects of the massage to linger, let go, relax, and enjoy the release of stress, soreness, and pressure that your body has been holding.
That was great! How often should I have a professional massage?
We’re glad you asked! We are most interested in the maintenance of your health! There is no “one size fits all” answer to this question…it really depends on you and the results desired from your professional massage therapy. If you would like to become one of our “frequent flyers,” you might consider purchasing one of our “Stimulus Packages!”
